Early television had a great tradition of Horror Hosts, ghouls and other creatures of the night, who introduced Saturday evening horror movies. Vampira (Los Angeles model and actress Maila Nurmi) was one of the earliest and one of the best. She patterned her persona after Morticia, a creation of cartoonist Charles Addams whose characters would inspire the later "Addams Family" TV show of the 1960s and the movies of the 90s. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, another Horror Hostess, based her act on Vampira.
I love horror movies. My favorite was The Creature from the Black Lagoon. I was able to watch at it again at the Dunedin movie in the park last year. I could not believe the acting. The drama was really funny, almost over kill. The music back than is what made the suspense so dramatic. Today I find the horror movies will make loud sounds at the right time to make you jump out of your skin.
Wow! Very interesting, Tom...Thanks for sharing! I am a big horror fan. But lately, the recent horror movies have no depth...great graphics but no great story line. Can't remember the last great horror flick I watched.
